An Epic Encounter "A classic test match that sparked an epic confrontation between India and Australia. Review of 1st Test Match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy: a must-read for all cricket fans! #BorderGavaskarTrophy".
Fans around the world have lots of expectations when India and Australia play against each other, especially in the longest format of the game. The Australian captain and players have said "winning in India is a career-defining moment". However, the first test in Nagpur was a one-sided affair and the visitors were completely dominated by the hosts.
It is safe to say Australia went down without a fight in the first game. Apart from a phase or two - one where Smith and Labuschagne put up a partnership in the first innings after losing two early wickets and the other where they got 5 wickets before India wrapped up the trail, Australia never appeared to be competing.
Australian batsmen were outclassed by disciplined bowling from the Indian attack in both innings. Australian batsmen lacked application and concentration, they were clueless in the middle. It felt like they lost the battle without fighting. It is concerning for them because this is an experienced Australian side visiting India, many players play in IPL as well and should have been more accustomed to Indian conditions.
One would think they would bat and apply themselves better in the third innings after seeing Indian tailenders bat for over a session but this was not the case. They came in and went out in a rush. Credit to team India for ticking all the boxes. Hope they can continue the dominance as the series progresses.
